Lefty White leads revamped Marlins Top 30 Prospects list

12:39 AM UTC

In a span of three months, Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix was able to completely revamp one of the worst farm systems.

In nine trades, including two blockbuster deals with the Padres, the Marlins brought in 19 players -- 11 of whom rank among MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Prospects for the organization. Several of them are either big league-ready or close, meaning Miami is hopeful it can turn things around sooner than expected in becoming a sustainable winner.

Team Top 30 Prospects lists:
ALE: BAL | BOS | NYY | TB | TOR
ALC: CLE | CWS | DET | KC | MIN
ALW: HOU | LAA | OAK | SEA | TEX
NLE: ATL | MIA | NYM | PHI | WSH
NLC: CHC | CIN | MIL | PIT | STL
NLW: AZ | COL | LAD | SD | SF

As a result, there have been shakeups up and down the system, beginning with left-hander Thomas White leapfrogging right-handers Noble Meyer and Max Meyer for the top spot. After dominating Single-A competition early this season, the 19-year-old White has been even better at High-A Beloit. In nine starts, he has lowered his ERA (2.57), WHIP (1.14), H/9 rate (7.1) and BB/9 rate (3.2) while maintaining the same K/9 rate (11.6).

Here’s a look at the Marlins' top prospects:

1. Thomas White, LHP (No. 46 overall)
2. Max Meyer, RHP (No. 71 overall)
3. Noble Meyer, RHP (No. 76 overall)
4. Connor Norby, 2B/OF
5. Agustin Ramirez, C/1B

Biggest jump/fall

Here are the players whose ranks changed the most from the preseason list (all stats through Sunday):

Jump: Joe Mack, C (Preseason: No. 24 | Midseason: No. 11)
Mack went 31st overall as one of the top catching prospects in the 2021 Draft, but he entered '24 as a question mark following back-to-back injury-impacted seasons. The 21-year-old has been one of the system's better stories, moving up from High-A Beloit to Double-A Pensacola after posting a 1.038 OPS in just 13 games. Since joining the Blue Wahoos, he has a .237/.318/.450 slash line, with a club-high 17 homers and 53 RBIs.

Fall: Jacob Berry, 3B/1B (Preseason: No. 5 | Midseason: Not ranked)
Things have yet to click for Berry, who was chosen sixth overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. The improvement he showed at Double-A (.743 OPS) and the Arizona Fall League (.770 OPS) in 2023 hasn't carried over with a slash line of .227/.292/.337 with the Blue Wahoos. The influx of prospect talent brought in from various trades has dropped the 23-year-old's stock even further. Berry has primarily played at third base and right field, with some time at second and first.
