PHILADELPHIA -- Neftalí Feliz pitched twice for the Phillies this week. The first time he turned a two-run lead into a two-run deficit in Cincinnati. The second time he turned a tie game into a three-run deficit against the Marlins.

The Phils could not pitch Feliz again.

So, on Thursday, they designated him for assignment. Brandon Kintzler was activated from the 10-day injured list to take Feliz’s place on the 26-man roster. The Phillies hope Kintzler can pitch better than the 8.50 ERA he posted in 20 appearances before he landed on the IL on June 8 with severe neck pain. He said Tuesday that he expects to return to form.

“We need him to be better,” Phillies manager Joe Girardi said before Thursday’s series finale against the Marlins was postponed because of rain. “We need him to pitch like he’s capable of.”

The Phillies and Marlins will make up Thursday’s game on July 16 as part of a single-admission doubleheader, beginning at 4:05 p.m. ET.

The Phillies signed Feliz before Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. He pitched well with Triple-A Lehigh Valley before joining the big league club last weekend at Citi Field. His appearance Monday in Cincinnati was his first in the big leagues since Aug. 13, 2017.

That contributed to Girardi being criticized for pitching Feliz in high-leverage situations Monday and Wednesday.

“I hope he stays with us and I told him that,” Girardi said about Feliz. “I still think he has innings left in him.”

Phillies shuffle rotation
Before Thursday’s game got postponed, the Phillies flipped Zach Eflin and Matt Moore in the rotation. Eflin had been scheduled to start Thursday, but he suffered from a sinus infection so they thought they would have him start Saturday.

Moore, who had been scheduled to start Saturday, was then supposed to pitch Thursday.

Following the postponement, the Phillies did not announce their pitching plans for the weekend, other than Zack Wheeler will pitch Friday against the Padres. But Eflin said he would be ready to pitch Saturday.

Is it time to shelve home run hat?
The Phillies have been losing ugly lately, but they continue to don the home run hat in the dugout. Bryce Harper wore it after his homer in the seventh inning on Wednesday cut the Marlins’ lead to 10-6.

Girardi said he has no problem with it, even though it is not playing well on TV.

“I think, in this game, you try to stay even keel and be the same no matter what every day, because there is so much failure in this game,” he said. “It doesn’t bother me. People could look at it the other way -- it’s an energizer, it gets people going. Everyone can look at it differently. It probably depends on your thoughts on things in life, but I don’t have a problem with it.”

Alumni weekend
The Phillies will honor David Montgomery, Roy Halladay and Manny Trillo during alumni weekend from Aug. 6-8 at Citizens Bank Park.

Montgomery will be honored in a pregame ceremony on Aug. 6, Trillo will be inducted to the Phillies Wall of Fame on Aug. 7 and Halladay will have his number retired on Aug. 8. The club announced that Carlos Ruiz is expected to be in attendance. Ruiz, who did not attend the 2008 or 2009 reunions a few years ago, was Halladay’s favorite catcher.
