WASHINGTON -- Marlins starting pitcher Kendry Flores left Saturday night's 7-1 win over the Nationals with a right shoulder strain. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list following the game.
Flores, the organization's No. 5 prospect per MLBPipeline.com, threw three scoreless innings in his season debut before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fourth. Flores said he first felt the pain during the third inning.
"I felt good those first two innings," Flores said through an interpreter. "It's just an unfortunate ending."
The 24-year-old right-hander was called up from Triple-A New Orleans to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader to preserve the rest of the Marlins' rotation. He was expected to be sent down following the game, regardless of how he pitched.

Flores allowed one hit, walked three and struck out one during his brief outing. He was replaced by Jose Urena in the fourth.
"He was aggressive, he was trying to attack," manager Don Mattingly said. "Just unfortunate him getting injured there."
