MIAMI -- Following the announcement of front-office hires Tuesday, the Marlins on Friday announced their 2024 coaching staff.

Coming off their first postseason berth in a full season since 2003, Miami kept a large chunk of its coaching staff together behind National League Manager of the Year Skip Schumaker, with a few new faces joining the fray.

Those in new positions are: John Mabry as the hitting coach, Griffin Benedict as third-base coach, Bill Mueller as assistant hitting coach and Jose Ceballos as the bullpen catcher.

Mueller is the sole addition from outside of the organization, joining Miami after two years with the Nationals as quality assurance coordinator. Perhaps best known as the 2003 American League batting champion, Mueller brings both a depth of personal knowledge plus experience on the Major League coaching staffs of the Cardinals, Cubs and Dodgers.

Mabry returns for his second season with the Marlins, after spending last year as assistant hitting coach. He played a crucial role alongside hitting coach Brant Brown in helping Miami reach the postseason and find regular-season success.

Ceballos has spent nine seasons in the Marlins' Minor League system as a coach, after playing with Miami from 2007-13. This season will be his first with the Major League club.

Benedict takes over third-base coaching duties from Jody Reed, who is remaining with the club as an infield coach. Reed suffered a right leg fracture last season when he was hit with a foul ball while coaching third base. Benedict spent the 2023 season as the quality assurance coach and has spent time with the Cubs' and Padres' organizations (two years with Chicago and 10 with San Diego).

Returning to the Marlins in their same roles to round out the coaching staff: Rod Barajas (field coordinator), Wellington Cepeda (bullpen coach), Rod Flippo (bullpen coordinator), Jason Hart (assistant hitting coach), Jon Jay (first-base coach), Reed (infield coach), Mel Stottlemyre Jr. (pitching coach) and Luis Urueta (bench coach).
