SEATTLE -- Mariners reliever Justin De Fratus, who has spent the first two months of the season with Triple-A Tacoma, reported on Instagram that he's been traded to the Rangers and will report to Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers announced the acquisition, as De Fratus is the player to be named to complete the deal that sent outfielder Patrick Kivlehan to Seattle.
The 28-year-old right-hander signed a one-year Major League deal with the Mariners last offseason as a free agent, but he was designated for assignment during Spring Training and re-signed on a Minor League contract. He pitched for the Phillies the previous five seasons with a 7-6 record and 4.08 ERA in 191 appearances.
De Fratus had an outstanding season for the Phillies in 2014, when he posted a 2.39 ERA in 54 games, but he struggled last year with a 5.51 ERA in 61 outings. He's 2-2 with a 3.21 ERA in 28 innings over 19 outings this year for Tacoma.
