SEATTLE -- Catcher Jesus Sucre and right-handed reliever Jonathan Aro were outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday by the Mariners, after both players cleared waivers.
The two were designated for assignment last Thursday to open spots on the 40-man roster following the acquisitions of catcher Tuffy Gosewisch on a waiver claim from Atlanta and left-hander Dillon Overton in a trade with the A's.
Both Sucre and Aro will be invited to the Mariners' Major League Spring Training camp, which opens with pitchers and catchers reporting on Feb. 14.
Sucre broke his leg playing winter ball last year, and played in only nine games over two stints with the Mariners after returning, but hit a healthy .480 (12-for-25) with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs.
The 28-year-old also batted .273 with 11 RBIs in 99 at-bats for Tacoma last year. Over parts of four seasons with Seattle, Sucre has hit .209 with two homers and 20 RBIs in 239 at-bats.
Aro, 26, was acquired a year ago in a trade with the Red Sox. He appeared in one game for Seattle in 2016, allowing one hit and one walk in two-thirds of an inning against the Tigers on June 20.
The Dominican native spent most of the year in Tacoma, going 3-2 with one save and a 2.48 ERA in 36 1/3 innings over 24 appearances, including one start.
