Buhner rejoins TV booth as Mariners unveil '25 broadcast teams

February 20th, 2025

PEORIA, Ariz. -- More changes are coming to the Mariners’ broadcast booths in 2025, for both television and radio, as the club announced on Thursday its talent for the upcoming season on ROOT Sports and the Mariners Radio Network.

Here’s a look at the group:

Aaron Goldsmith, lead play-by-play voice for TV
Jay Buhner, TV analyst
Dave Valle, TV analyst
Angie Mentink, pre- and postgame shows; radio and TV analyst
Ryan Rowland-Smith, pre- and postgame shows; radio and TV analyst
Rick Rizzs, lead play-by-play voice for radio
Gary Hill Jr., executive producer/engineer and play-by-play voice for radio

The personnel adjustments feature a shuffling of in-house talent, along with the return of Buhner, the Mariners Hall of Famer (who rejoins the group for the first time regularly since 2012) and the elevation of Valle (who originally joined ROOT in 2010 and has been in a more part-time capacity) to a more prominent role.

Mentink, in her 29th year at ROOT, also becomes the first woman in team history taking on a regular role as an in-game color analyst.

The moves come in the wake of Dave Sims leaving in November to become the lead radio broadcaster for the Yankees, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Additionally, longtime ROOT broadcaster Mike Blowers will not be returning.

The return of Buhner represents the most notable external addition, though this won’t be his first foray into the booth. The 1996 All-Star right fielder previously worked as part of Mariners TV from 2002-05 and ‘11-12, following a 15-year career that ended in ‘01.

The shakeup of many incumbents also features Goldsmith moving exclusively to TV after splitting duties with Sims between TV and radio. With the team since 2013, Goldsmith is also actively involved in non-game-related broadcasting, including the Mariners Hot Stove Show, Cactus League Report and The Wheelhouse Podcast with Jerry Dipoto.

On the radio side, Hill has been elevated to permanently work alongside Rizzs, who enters his 40th season, making him the longest-tenured broadcaster in team history. Hill, who has been with the Mariners Radio Network since 2010 and full-time since '17, will also continue his work on the Mariners Podcast, Mariners Hot Stove Show, Trident Talk, The Wheelhouse Podcast and Cactus League Report.

All 162 regular-season Mariners games, and 30 Spring Training games, can be heard on Seattle Sports (AM 710) and the Mariners Radio Network (covering five states and British Columbia).

The Mariners begin Cactus League play on Friday against the Padres. A full regular-season broadcast and television schedule will be released at a later date.
