Machado (finger injury) questionable vs. Jays
DETROIT -- Orioles third baseman Manny Machado did not play in Thursday's 6-5 series loss to the Tigers, as the infielder is dealing with a sore finger on his right hand. Machado, whose strikeout ended Wednesday's game, has been dealing with the issue for a little while, according to O's manager Buck Showalter.
"We'll see," Showalter said of Machado's availability for Friday's opener versus Toronto. "His finger is pretty sore today. Had some swelling today. [Head athletic trainer] Richie [Bancells] thinks it might manage, but we'll see."
Showalter said Machado first felt it hitting a couple balls off the bat.
"We used to call it growing up, 'the bat rattles,'" Showalter said. "It just hasn't gotten any better. ... It's affecting his throwing more than anything. It could be affecting some of the things offensively, but just gripping the baseball was tough on him today."
