MadBum on IL with shoulder injury
MILWAUKEE -- Madison Bumgarner is headed to the 10-day injured list, but the news is not all bad for the veteran left-hander.
An MRI of Bumgarner's shoulder showed inflammation, but no structural damage.
"He's receiving treatment for shoulder inflammation, and we are hopeful for a quick recovery," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said.
To fill Bumgarner's place on the roster, the D-backs recalled right-hander Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno. Castellanos arrived prior to Thursday night's game and was listed among the D-backs relievers for the game.
Bumgarner left his start Wednesday against the Mets after two innings with discomfort in his shoulder. He said after the game that the shoulder discomfort flared up a few weeks back, but he thought he could pitch through it.
“I didn’t think too much of it,” Bumgarner said after the 7-6 loss. “This stuff comes and goes throughout the year every year. Like I told you guys before, it’s pretty rare to go out there and feel great every time, and this is just bad judgment on my part. I thought it was gonna get better and go away sooner. It’s gotten worse, and the last three or four days have been enough where it’s going to affect my pitching.”
The D-backs claimed Castellanos off waivers from the Astros on Jan. 29 this year, and he was 2-1 with a 6.00 ERA in four starts this year for Reno.
