The Brewers’ offense has been stale for most of the season, ranking near the bottom of MLB in categories like batting average, OPS, strikeout rate and runs scored. But you would never know Milwaukee was in the midst of a season-long slump during the second game of its day-night doubleheader against Washington on Saturday.

Luis Urías, Lorenzo Cain and Kolten Wong had three hits apiece to help the Brewers defeat the Nationals, 6-2, and sweep the doubleheader at Nationals Park.

“It was awesome. We haven’t had too many games like that,” Urías said about the offense. “Today, having a little bit of offense was really fun. Hopefully we can keep getting better.”

In the opener, Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta pitched the first complete game of his career in a 4-1 victory.

“Freddy was so good in the first game. He was efficient. He was on the attack. … His fastball was excellent today,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.

The nightcap was tied at 2 through five, but the Brewers took the lead in the top of the sixth inning off reliever Daniel Hudson. After Cain reached base on a walk, Urías followed with an RBI double down the left-field corner. Two batters later, the Brewers had runners on first and third when Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Urías.

Wong kept the line going against left-hander Sam Clay, singling to left field to score Travis Shaw. Willy Adames followed with an RBI double to score Christian Yelich to cap the four-run sixth.

“I thought it was a good offensive game in Game 2,” Counsell said. “We put a streak of really good at-bats together and that’s what leads to those innings -- everybody having good at-bats. That’s what we did.”

In the first game, Urías was hitless in three at-bats and didn't feel comfortable at the plate. He felt he wasn’t using his back leg enough to drive the ball. Urías, however, made adjustments and had one of his best games of the season.

“It gave me the result that I wanted. I tried to stay patient at the plate and get a good pitch to hit. That helped me tonight,” Urías said.

With Peralta completing Game 1, it allowed Counsell to unleash his rested bullpen, and it responded by pitching 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball.

“They did a nice job,” Counsell said.

By sweeping the doubleheader, the Brewers improved their record to 27-25.

“This was a nice day. One, just to get both games in. ... It wasn’t optimistic at the beginning of the day [because of the bad weather],” Counsell said. "Then you get a sweep on the road. A very good day. I thought we played good offense, too. We put up six runs in the second game with a lot of good at-bats.”
