PITTSBURGH -- Luis Ortiz was brilliant Saturday night, tossing seven scoreless frames to set the Pirates up for a 4-1 win over the Phillies at PNC Park, their sixth straight victory.

Ortiz was efficient and pounded the zone, allowing just five baserunners on the night and rarely having to work his way out of damage. While he struck out only two, the fewest of his four starts since June 26, he has excelled since returning to the rotation, recording a 0.73 ERA (24 2/3 IP, two runs). His night ended by getting Bryson Stott to ground into a double play before Nick Castellanos popped up to center.

Phillies starter Cristopher Sánchez matched Ortiz pitch for pitch for five innings until Andrew McCutchen launched a home run to open the sixth. Oneil Cruz would double home Nick Gonzales to extend the lead with two outs later in the frame. Cruz later tacked on a two-run shot in the eighth off of Matt Strahm for insurance.

Aroldis Chapman and David Bednar finished off the Phillies in the final two frames to secure the Pirates’ 50th win of the season. They now sit at 50-48.
