Dylan Crews added yet another accolade to his already impressive résumé on Sunday, winning the Golden Spikes Award.

The honor, which is given to the best player in amateur ball in the nation each year, joins Crews’ 2021 National Freshman of the Year award and SEC player of the year nods in both 2022 and 2023, as yet another achievement in his decorated college career.

The No. 1 Draft prospect per MLB Pipeline has been dominant in every facet of the game this season for LSU. At the plate, he is slashing a downright silly .418/.562/.707, with 18 homers and six stolen bases. It should also be no surprise, considering his numbers, that Crews has walked a whopping 70 times compared to just 46 strikeouts.

The 70 free passes are the second most in all of NCAA Division I baseball this season. The Tigers outfielder also ranks second in OBP and Top 10 in batting average, hits (104) and runs (95).

With a 6-foot, 205-pound frame, Crews not only has power, but also speed. His 60-grade run tool, paired with 50-grade arm and fielding tools, have led scouts to believe he will stay in center field as a big leaguer.

In his other two seasons at LSU, Crews produced at a similar clip. As a freshman, he slashed .362/.453/.663 while clubbing 18 long balls and he followed that up with 22 jacks and a .349/.463/.691 slash line as a sophomore. With the offensive consistency that Crews displayed in his three collegiate seasons, it should be no surprise that he has a 70-grade hit tool, the highest in the draft.

While it’s currently up in the air whether the Buccos will take Crews first overall to be their future center fielder or draft his LSU teammate, right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes – the No. 2 Draft prospect – one thing is for sure; in his three years down in the bayou, Crews has shown he has the tools to be a star.
