Gilbert, López named April's Pitchers of the Month
Breakout months for Mariners sophomore Logan Gilbert and Marlins right-hander Pablo López earned them MLB's Pitcher of the Month Awards for April on Monday.
Gilbert was named the first American League Pitcher of the Month of 2022, and López got the nod in the National League.
The 24-year-old Gilbert went 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings over four starts in April. He allowed only two runs -- and only one earned run, in his first start of the year.
Gilbert led the AL in ERA and beat two reigning division champions during the month, the White Sox and Rays.
López posted an almost identical stat line. The 26-year-old went 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings in his four starts for Miami. The only run López allowed in April came during his first start, before he closed out the month with three straight scoreless outings.
López led the Majors in ERA for the month of April, and he carries an 18 1/3 scoreless innings streak into May.
This is the first career Player of the Month Award for both Gilbert and López.
