Florida captures first LLWS title on wild walk-off bunt

August 25th, 2024

Lake Mary is your 2024 Little League World Series champion.

The Florida team beat Chinese Taipei in the championship game in a 2-1 extra-innings thriller on Sunday.

Chinese Taipei kicked off the scoring in the top of the first inning with a single off the bat of Hu Yen-Chun to go up 1-0.

Both team’s offenses were held in check until the bottom of the sixth inning.

With three outs to go and down one run, Florida would scratch out a run and force extras thanks to a bloop single from DeMarcos Mieses.

After a scoreless 7th inning, Chinese Taipei was unable to get the automatic runner home from second in the top of the 8th, setting the table for Florida to capture the title.

On the first pitch of the bottom of the 8th, Hunter Alexander dropped down a bunt to the right side.

Pitcher Chiu Wei-Che fielded the ball cleanly, but his throw to first sailed into right field after no one was at the bag, letting the runner from second score and giving Florida the win.

It's the state’s first ever LLWS title and the sixth straight tournament won by the U.S. team.

The wild game was the first championship game to go to extra innings since 2007.
