The Yankees acquired first baseman Kendrys Morales and cash from the Oakland A's on Tuesday for a player to be named or cash considerations, the club announced.

Morales, 35, hit .204 (22-for-108) with one double, one triple, one home run and seven RBIs in 34 games with the A's before he was designated for assignment Monday.

When a player's contract is designated for assignment -- often abbreviated "DFA" -- that player is immediately removed from his club's 40-man roster. Within seven days of the transaction (it had been 10 days under the 2012-16 Collective Bargaining Agreement), the player can either be traded or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.

Morales spent just seven weeks with Oakland. He was acquired in a trade with the Blue Jays on March 27 in exchange for Minor League infielder Jesus Lopez and international slot money after Matt Olson injured his right hand in the A's two-game Japan Series.

Morales, a 13-year veteran, is joining his seventh MLB club after stints with the A's, Blue Jays (2017-18), Royals (2015-16), Twins (2014), Mariners (2013, '14) and Angels (2006-12). He's a career .267 hitter with 212 home runs across 1,344 games.

To clear room for Morales on the 40-man roster, right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga (right shoulder strain) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
