Kendrys joins exclusive club with 200th HR
Blue Jays' DH the fifth Cuban-born player to reach milestone
TORONTO -- Kendrys Morales became the fifth Cuban-born player to reach the 200-homer plateau with a solo shot during the sixth inning of Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Yankees. Morales drove a Domingo German fastball a projected 373 feet over the right-field wall, according to Statcast™, tying the score at 1.
Morales joins Rafael Palmeiro (569), Jose Canseco (462), Tony Perez (379) and Tony Oliva (220) as the only Cubans to reach the number.
"It always feels good to hear those names," Morales said through an interpreter. "It just means I need to work harder and keep working and hit some more."
The 35-year-old slugger finished the game with two hits and the RBI. After a rough start to the season, Morales has turned it around recently, hitting .333 with six home runs and 10 RBIs over his past 26 games. The home run was his second in his past three games.
