LOS ANGELES -- The Justin Turner saga continued on Sunday, as manager Dave Roberts said lingering pain in the third baseman's healing left wrist kept him out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game.
After a lengthy pregame meeting, Turner was not placed on the disabled list, although Roberts didn't rule out the possibility of it happening retroactively. Instead, Roberts said he was hopeful that another game off, plus the scheduled Monday off-day, would allow Turner to play on Tuesday.
"Could he play today? Yes. Is his wrist getting better? Absolutely," said Roberts. "But I think for us, having an off-day tomorrow, having him available to hit today, not push it to gain that equity we've built in the last couple days -- right now, where we're at, it just doesn't make sense."
Earlier this weekend, Roberts said Turner would start on Sunday. But Turner told him on Sunday the wrist was still sore.
"Logic says that if there's some soreness in there and you crank it up and you get going and you take a hundred swings and you play in a game, it's probably not going to get better," said Roberts. "So that residual soreness, I'm betting on taking today [off] and another day, with the off-day, that it'll dissipate come Tuesday."

Turner suffered a non-displaced fracture of the wrist on March 19 when hit by a Kendall Graveman fastball. The fact that he still has pain nearly three months later is not surprising for that type of injury, but hardly reassuring, as the All-Star has been the club's most consistent offensive producer the past two seasons. He returned from the disabled list May 15, but has lacked pull power.

Starters for next series still TBD
Before watching Kenta Maeda's bullpen session on Sunday, Roberts said Maeda was the most likely starter for Wednesday, if the session went well. Maeda is on the disabled list with a strained right hip.
The session ended with a lengthy conversation among pitching coaches, trainers, the manager, the pitcher and his interpreter. Maeda continued to simulate his motion and push off the rubber, as if his concern remained.
Roberts would not list a candidate to start Tuesday, but they include Daniel Corcino, who pitched a scoreless inning of relief Saturday night. Left-hander Manny Banuelos, currently at Triple-A Oklahoma City, could also get the call. Roberts sounded disinterested when asked if starting a short reliever was a possibility.
He did it twice on the past trip and the team went 1-1 in those games, but Dennis Santana blew out his shoulder pitching 3 2/3 innings of relief in one of those games, leading to his late scratch and emergency use of nine relievers in the other.
Kershaw progressing, but return unknown
The news was upbeat on Clayton Kershaw, who is "on track," Roberts said, without providing a timetable for the ace's return from a lower back strain. Kershaw still needs bullpen sessions, simulated games and, perhaps, rehab starts.
Roberts reiterated that Alex Wood will continue to start, despite nagging issues with hamstring cramps and adductor discomfort. Walker Buehler (bruised ribs) still won't pick up a ball for a few more days.
