deGrom, Manaea named June's top pitchers
Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom and A’s left-hander Sean Manaea were named the Pitchers of the Month for June on Friday.
It’s the second time deGrom has won the National League Pitcher of the Month Award this season. He was April’s honoree as well. Prior to 2021, the righty had never been Pitcher of the Month. Manaea won once previously in April 2018.
The two runs the Phillies pushed across against deGrom on June 26 were the only runs the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner allowed all month. Over five starts, he posted a 0.67 ERA with 40 strikeouts and four walks in 27 innings, and the Mets won all five games.
Manaea opened the month with a shutout against the Mariners and finished with a 1.13 ERA, 34 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32 innings across five starts. The A’s have had two of the past four AL Pitchers of the Month, with Chris Bassitt winning last September.
