Free-agent pitcher Julio Urías suspended through 2025 All-Star break

March 21st, 2025

Free-agent pitcher has been suspended through the end of the 2025 All-Star break for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy, Commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Friday. Urías will be reinstated from the restricted list on July 17.

Commissioner Manfred issued the following statement regarding the discipline:

“The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urías violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urías violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate.”

Urías hasn’t made a professional baseball appearance since he was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence in September 2023. The left-hander was placed on administrative leave while Major League Baseball conducted its investigation. After parts of eight seasons with the Dodgers, he became a free agent at the end of the 2023 campaign and has remained unsigned since that time.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office charged Urías with five misdemeanors last April after the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office opted not to pursue felony charges. Urías pleaded no contest to one of the charges and the other four were dropped, while Urías agreed to enter a yearlong domestic violence treatment program.

This is Urías' second suspension for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy. He was previously suspended 20 games in 2019 after being arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. He wasn't criminally charged for that incident.
