The Mets plan to bring back infielder José Reyes next season and will part ways with pitcher Jonathon Niese, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Reyes, 33, signed a Minor League deal in June after being released by the Rockies following a 51-game suspension stemming from a domestic violence incident in Hawaii last October. Heyman reported on Friday that the Mets will pick up the option on that deal, worth the league-minimum $507,500, though the Rockies still owe him $22 million in 2017.
Reyes, who played his first nine seasons in Queens and won the 2011 National League batting title, hit .267 with eight homers and 24 RBIs in 60 games for the Mets this year, and he was on the club's postseason roster for the NL Wild Card game against the Giants.
Niese, who was acquired from the Pirates at the non-waiver Trade Deadline, tossed just 11 innings over six outings for the Mets in 2016, giving up 14 earned runs. He spent his first eight seasons with the club, then was traded to Pittsburgh last winter in the Neil Walker deal.
