TAMPA, Fla. -- Top prospects Jorge Mateo and Aaron Judge homered on a banner afternoon for the Yankees' farm system, helping power a 6-4 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Rated as New York's No. 1 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Mateo dented the left-field scoreboard with a third-inning solo shot off Steven Wright. The 20-year-old shortstop said that it was the first time he had faced a knuckleballer in his young career.
"My teammates told me to look for a high ball to swing at," Mateo said through an interpreter. "They also told me if it was in the middle, to take the pitch -- because most likely it was going to end up low."
Judge, rated as New York's No. 2 prospect, showed off his big league power by going opposite-field for a three-run blast in the seventh inning off Anthony Varvaro.
"The wind's always blowing my way for some reason," the 6-foot-7, 275-pound Judge said, with a smile. "I was just trying to stay inside something and hit something to the right side and get a run in. That one just happened to keep going."
Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira also tallied RBIs for the Yankees, with Jacoby Ellsbury tripling and scoring a run in his spring debut.

Wright permitted two runs and five hits over three innings, walking one and striking out one. He threw 51 pitches, 36 for strikes.
The Red Sox got off to a quick start against non-roster right-hander Tyler Cloyd. Mookie Betts led off the game with a triple and scored on Brock Holt's single, but a succession of Yankee relievers quieted Boston's split-squad lineup for most of the game.

Boston's bats woke up in the eighth, as Brennan Boesch and Ryan LaMarre homered off right-hander Mark Montgomery.

Red Sox: Right-hander Clay Buchholz will make his first start of Spring Training in Sunday's 1:05 p.m. ET home game on MLB.TV against the Orioles in Fort Myers. Buchholz didn't pitch after July 10 last season, due to a right elbow strain. Veteran outfielder David Murphy, a late arrival to camp who is trying to make the club as a non-roster invitee, will also see his first action.
Yankees: Right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (12-7, 3.51 ERA in 2015) will make his first start of the spring on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. ET on MLB.TV, as the Yankees visit the Phillies in Clearwater. Tanaka is returning from offseason surgery to remove a bone spur from his pitching elbow. Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius will comprise the double-play combination behind Tanaka, with top prospects Mateo and Judge also making the trip.
