A little less than a year later, Walker is already through that number of games two levels up, at Double-A Springfield.\n\nAnd if he keeps hitting like he hit Friday night, he may not be there very much longer, either.\n\nThe Cardinals' top prospect continued his torrid May breakout Friday, homering and driving in four in Springfield’s 12-8 win over Amarillo at Hammons Field. Drafted 21st overall in the 2020 MLB Draft, Jordan Walker quickly shot up the prospect ranks. The 6-foot-5 masher has already shown elite exit velocities in his first taste of the Minors. He maxed out at 116.2 mph in Single-A Southeast last season (a similar max to Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Javier Báez among others in 2021) and had 21 batted balls come in at 100-plus mph there. At just 20 years old, Walker is already knocking on the door of Triple-A.
Sept. 18: Homers, scores 100th run Jordan Walker checked off another box during his sensational season. Baseball's No. 6 overall prospect went deep for the first time in 51 at-bats, clocking a three-run homer while scoring his 100th run to lead Double-A Springfield. July 31: Blasts two homers in slugfest Not even 48 hours after hitting two homers in the same game on Friday, Jordan Walker did it again for Double-A Springfield on Sunday. Walker got hot late in the game, hitting a solo homer in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the eighth.
The third baseman credited his surge to a change in pregame routine, working with a different pitching machine and at a higher velocity.
"Sometimes something clicks, so yeah, I’ve been just feeling good at the plate for a little bit. Hopefully I can enjoy it as long as I can," he said.
Walker went yard off of sliders, one off a lefty and one off a righty. Last year’s 21st overall pick in the Draft is handling Double-A impressively in his first full season. May 29: Walker delivers multihit game Jordan Walker went 2-for-3 with a steal, two RBIs, two runs scored and three walks in Double-A Springfield's 11-4win.
After fourth-ranked Masyn Winn got things started with a double to left on the second pitch of the game, he notched his 16th steal of the year -- and first in Double-A. Two batters later, fellow 20-year-old Walker drove him in with a single and swiped a bag for his 11th steal. Walker lived up to his name by drawing walks in the second, fourth and ninth frames while adding an RBI double in the eighth.
Walker is in the midst of a strong sophomore season. He is batting .305 with a .898 OPS, 18 extra-base hits, 22 RBIs and 25 walks in 40 games for Springfield.

May 18: Walker cranks a long ball With Double-A Springfield, top prospectJordan Walker rocketed a two-run game-tying homer, his fourth long ball of the season. He added a walk and an RBI GIDP in the Cardinals’ 7-6 loss, and the 19-year-old is raking in his sophomore season with a .311 average and a .915 OPS in 32 games.
May 14: Walker standing out at Double-A Fresh out of high school, it only took Jordan Walker 27 games at Single-A Palm Beach last summer before convincing the Cardinals he was ready for his next challenge. A little less than a year later, Walker is already through that number of games two levels up, at Double-A Springfield.
And if he keeps hitting like he hit Friday night, he may not be there very much longer, either.
