Blue Jays outfielder Jonathan Davis has made a last-minute entry into the race for Major League Baseball's catch of the year.

Starting in right field for the Blue Jays in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Orioles at Buffalo's Sahlen Field, Davis had plenty of ground to cover when Cedric Mullins launched a high fly ball into the right-field corner in the second inning. As the ball hung up, Davis raced over to the wall, launched his 5-foot-8 frame into the air and robbed what would have been a sure home run.

Davis’ glove was just over the wall when he made the grab by the foul pole, his body fully extended as he crashed into the padding before falling onto the warning track. Blue Jays starter Tanner Roark stood on the mound, hands on his knees staring out at Davis in disbelief at what his outfielder had just done.

Davis has worked as a reserve outfielder for the Blue Jays over the past couple of seasons and established himself as a valuable piece late in 2020 thanks to plays just like this. It isn’t the first time he’s dropped some jaws, either. Davis made a great case for the Blue Jays’ defensive play of the year in 2019, too, on a diving catch at Tropicana Field on May 29 when he laid out to make a sprinting, diving catch on the warning track.
