O's recall Yacabonis, place Rasmus on DL
NEW YORK -- Just a few hours removed from Friday's 7-3, 14-inning win over the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, the Orioles recalled right-hander Jimmy Yacabonis to give them some bullpen coverage for Saturday's game.
To clear a roster spot, Colby Rasmus was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip flexor strain. Rasmus apparently sustained the injury several days ago, catching a cleat spike to the hip. Rasmus has a history of hip issues, having surgery in 2016.
Rasmus, signed to a Minor League deal with an invite to big league camp this spring, has played in eight games this season and is 2-for-21 with 13 strikeouts.
Yacabonis, who was slated to be part of Triple-A Norfolk's rotation, will add some length to the O's bullpen. He allowed three runs on two hits in one inning of relief in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Yanks at Yankee Stadium. The only relievers who were not used in Friday's game were Nestor Cortes Jr. and Darren O'Day.
