PHILADELPHIA -- Jimmy Rollins is one of the greatest players in Phillies history, and unquestionably the greatest shortstop to ever play for the franchise. He won a World Series. He won a National League Most Valuable Player Award. He is the franchise’s all-time hits leader.

He will be in serious consideration for the National Baseball Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible.

He will also officially retire as a member of the Phillies before Saturday night’s game against the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. Rollins last played for the Phillies in 2014 before being traded to the Dodgers in December of that year for Zach Eflin and Tom Windle. He finished his career with the Dodgers ('15) and White Sox ('16).

Rollins spent 15 of his 17 seasons with the Phillies. He made three NL All-Star teams, won four Gold Glove Awards and one Silver Slugger Award.

He famously called the Phillies the team to beat in the NL East in 2007.

The pregame ceremony begins shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fans 15 and older will receive a replica of Rollins’ 2008 World Series championship ring.

Herrera getting close

Phillies center fielder Odúbel Herrera ran hard before Friday night’s game, indicating he is close to being activated from the injured list. Herrera could be activated as early as Saturday.
