Jeter & young All-Stars top list of most popular MLB player jerseys
12 of top 20 aged 27 or younger; Puig & Trout vault into top 5 in June
Heading into his 14th and final All-Star Game appearance, Derek Jeter remains atop the list of most popular MLB player jerseys, closely followed by some of the biggest names in the game as well as the young stars who are leading the next generation. Following Jeter on the list of top 20 most popular MLB player jerseys since Opening Day - released jointly today by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association - are Buster Posey, Clayton Kershaw, David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia.
The list below is based on sales of Majestic jerseys from MLB.com/Shop, the official online shop of Major League Baseball, since the start of the 2014 regular season. Twelve of the top 20 are 27 years old or younger, tied for the most since MLB began publishing these rankings in 2010. Three players - Freddie Freeman, Masahiro Tanaka and Anthony Rizzo - appear on the list for the first time. For the month of June alone, Jeter, Kershaw and Posey top the list, while young stars Yasiel Puig (#4) and Mike Trout (#5) vaulted into the top 5.
The full-season list below features players representing 15 different Clubs (including eight different Clubs in the top 10), with only the Dodgers (Kershaw, Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu) having as many as three players on the list. The list also features eight infielders, five pitchers, four outfielders, two catchers and a sole DH in Ortiz.
