Road warrior Aguilar HRs; Marlins end skid
Jesús Aguilar knocked his MLB-leading ninth road homer and rookie right-hander Cody Poteet won his Major League debut as the Marlins snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the D-backs, 3-2, on Wednesday night at Chase Field.
Aguilar, who has reached base safely in each of his 17 road contests this season, has gone deep in a career-high-tying three straight games for the second time in 2021. He also achieved that feat on Miami's previous three-city trip. Sixteen of his 34 hits this season have gone for extra bases, including nine of his last 11.
Entering Wednesday, Aguilar's home-road splits were drastic:
Home: 63 PA, .226/.317/.302, 0 HR, 9 RBIs
Road: 70 PA, .333/.414/.783, 8 HR, 20 RBIs
Those numbers fall in line with his career stats:
Home: 809 PA, .239/.313/.408, 28 homers, 118 RBIs
Road: 850 PA, .283/.364/.542, 51 homers, 160 RBIs
Dating back to last season, Aguilar has reached base in 30 consecutive road games -- the longest streak of his career. It is also the second-longest stretch in the Majors, behind reigning American League MVP Award winner José Abreu (42 games).
