ATLANTA -- Attempting to benefit from the Giants’ surplus, the Braves will give veteran journeyman Jay Jackson a chance to strengthen their bullpen.

Atlanta acquired Jackson from San Francisco on Monday in exchange for cash considerations and either a player to be named later or additional cash considerations. Jackson had been designated for assignment when San Francisco needed to create 40-man roster spots last week.

Jackson was drafted by the Cubs in 2008, but didn’t debut until '15, when he made six appearances for the Padres. He went to Japan the following year and played for Hiroshima through the 2018 season.

After returning to the United States in 2019, Jackson posted a 4.45 ERA in 28 appearances for Milwaukee. He played in Japan in 2020, but returned to MLB and produced a 3.74 ERA over 23 appearances (one start) for San Francisco this past season.

To create a 40-man roster spot for Jackson, the Braves designated Yoan López for assignment. López produced a 3.03 ERA for Triple-A Gwinnett this year after he was acquired from the D-backs in May.
