MIAMI -- Facing his former team, played the hero.

Burger demolished a walk-off three-run homer to left with two outs to lift the Marlins to a 7-4 win over the White Sox on Sunday at loanDepot park, securing the series win over Chicago.

Miami had trailed 4-1 in the sixth, but forced its way back with a two-run seventh inning before mounting a huge rally in the ninth.

Vidal Bruján got things going for the Marlins with a leadoff walk in the ninth. Nick Fortes was run down by pitcher Michael Kopech on his sacrifice bunt -- but no one was covering third and Bruján took the base easily.

With two outs, Josh Bell doubled off the left-field wall, past the outstretched arm of Tommy Pham to drive in Bruján, tying the game.

With two runners on after an intentional walk to Jesús Sánchez, Burger stepped to the plate. He waited for his pitch, swinging at the first offering he saw and taking a fastball down for a 1-1 count. Then, the pitch he wanted: A 99 mph four-seam fastball that Burger demolished 431 feet, per Statcast, out of the park.
