CLEVELAND -- Another piece of the Indians' bullpen is back in the fold.
On Thursday, Cleveland activated right-hander Jeff Manship from the 15-day disabled list, following his bout with right wrist tendinitis. In order to add Manship to the active roster, the club optioned lefty TJ House to Triple-A Columbus.
"There's been a lot of change lately," Manship said of the bullpen. "I definitely feel like it's the same group, pretty much, as when we started the season. I was pretty excited to get back down there with those guys. I was sitting in the dugout every game and was definitely missing going down there with the camaraderie that we all have."
In light of some recent rotation troubles, the Tribe cycled through a number of middle relievers over the past week. Now Cleveland is beginning to get its relief corps back in order, and adding Manship should help that process as well.
In 37 games this season, the 31-year-old Manship has logged 29 1/3 innings, in which he has compiled 20 strikeouts against 13 walks. In his five appearances prior to landing on the 15-day DL on July 29, however, the righty gave up five runs on eight hits, including a pair of home runs, in 2 2/3 innings. That rough stretch resulted in his season ERA rising to 3.38 from 2.03.
"There's no doubt in my mind," said Manship, asked if the wrist issues affected his most recent outings. "Every time I'd go out and play catch and warm up for the game, it would hurt. So whatever I was taking out there, trying to alleviate pain, trying to subconsciously protect myself, I was taking into the game. I just feel stuff-wise it wasn't the same. I wasn't finishing pitches. Command was way off. I feel like I was leaving everything up. I feel a lot better now."
Cleveland's bullpen consists of Cody Allen, Andrew Miller, Bryan Shaw, Dan Otero, Zach McAllister, Kyle Crockett and Manship. With House back at Triple-A, the Indians still have a pair of lefties in Miller and Crockett.

House, 26, has been working on a transition from starting to relieving this season with Columbus. In 26 games (12 starts), the left-hander has posted a 4.23 ERA in 66 innings, during which he has accumulated 46 strikeouts and 40 walks. In four games with the Indians this year, House has allowed one run on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
"It was hard to not have Manny for that time," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "I think it made sense, what we did. ... There's never a guarantee somebody is going to go out and give up runs or not, but at least now he has a chance to be himself and throw his pitches. Then you see what happens. I think we've all seen what he can do. You get him in there against the right hitters and he can really help you."
