DENVER — The Rockies scratched two-time All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman from Monday night's lineup against the Dodgers -- after not using him in a three-game weekend series at San Francisco -- because of left shoulder inflammation.
Goodman was in the field at Coors before Monday's game, working with the athletic training and biomechanics personnel. Asked if placing Goodman on the 10-day injured list was a consideration, Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer said, "Not today -- we'll reevaluate tomorrow."
Goodman, 26, is a key run producer for the club. Beginning play Monday, his 34 home runs and .541 slugging percentage each ranked fifth in the Majors, and his .861 OPS topped all Rockies qualified players.
With Goodman's availability limited, Brett Sullivan received added playing time and batted .316 (6-for-19) with three home runs and eight RBIs during a road trip that saw the Rockies drop two of three in St. Louis but win two of three in Arizona and San Francisco, finishing their longest road trip of the season 5-4.
