FOX Sports, ESPN to air 2019 London Series
Major League Baseball on Friday announced that FOX Sports and ESPN will each air games from the Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019 in the U.S., with FOX Sports presenting the exclusive broadcast on Saturday, June 29 and ESPN producing the exclusive telecast on Sunday, June 30. The historic regular-season series between the New York Yankees and the World Series champion Boston Red Sox marks baseball's first games ever played in Europe and originates from London's Olympic Stadium.
FOX's Saturday Game of the Week lead broadcast team comprised of Joe Buck, analyst John Smoltz and reporter Ken Rosenthal will call Saturday's matchup while ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball team of Matt Vasgersian, analysts Alex Rodriguez and Jessica Mendoza and reporter Buster Olney will provide commentary Sunday with each broadcast team on-site at London's Olympic Stadium. First pitch for Saturday's game is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET, and Sunday's start time is 10:10 a.m. ET. More information on additional programming and features will be announced by each network in 2019.
FOX Sports extended its rights agreement with Major League Baseball last month and last season provided extensive coverage of MLB's International Series games in Mexico and Puerto Rico. ESPN has also participated and collaborated in presentations of special MLB events, including the MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, the Fort Bragg Game, the MLB exhibition game in Cuba and regular-season games in Mexico and Puerto Rico.
London Stadium, the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, will take on a baseball configuration when Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019 and 2020. The estimated capacity of London Stadium for the series will be 57,000. The United Kingdom will follow other international venues that have hosted regular season Major League games, joining Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico and Australia.
