Nowhere to hide for intrepid Heidi Watney!
Apple TV+ reporter has close call with homer at Fenway's Pesky's Pole
"Heads up, Heidi!"
That was the home run call from Stephen Nelson for Franchy Cordero's solo blast in the fourth inning of this week's Friday night Apple TV+ Game of the Week between the Red Sox and Rays at Fenway Park.
On the first pitch he saw to open the fourth, Cordero smashed a Ryan Yarbrough curveball deep down the line in right field and right over the head of Heidi Watney, who was providing on-field -- and in-the-stands -- coverage.
Watney was discussing Fenway's famous Pesky's Pole, the right field foul pole that has been signed by innumerable players and fans over the years after being named for former Red Sox infielder Johnny Pesky.
It was almost as if Watney predicted Cordero's homer. Just seconds before he connected, Watney said, "I've gotta be careful because we've got balls flying in from the field."
That vigilance certainly paid off. Move over, Babe Ruth. It's time to make room for "Watney's called shot."
