Guardians-Tigers postponed; doubleheader Friday

CLEVELAND -- The Guardians’ series opener against the Tigers at Progressive Field was postponed on Thursday night due to rain and will be made up as a traditional doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Fans with tickets to the originally scheduled Aug. 18 game will be the only fans permitted to attend either game of the twin bill. Those who had tickets to Thursday’s rainout will be allowed to exchange their tickets into one of 13 designated games, including Friday’s doubleheader. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday.

The Guardians are still planning to celebrate their Free Shirt Friday night before the doubleheader and will distribute the giveaway to the first 12,500 fans in the ballpark before Game 1. Sugardale Dollar Dog night will begin service between Games 1 and 2. The $2 Pregame in the District presented by Miller Lite promotion will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET and will continue until first pitch of Game 2.

Gavin Williams, who was originally scheduled to start on Friday, will pitch in the matinee against Detroit’s Tarik Skubal. Xzavion Curry, who was supposed to start on Thursday, will handle Game 2 against Matt Manning.
