DETROIT -- For the second consecutive day, the Tigers have an unexpected off-day. The combination of cold weather, high winds and mixed precipitation led to a postponement of Monday night’s scheduled series opener against the Guardians at Comerica Park.

The game will be made up Tuesday afternoon as part of a straight doubleheader beginning at 1:10 p.m. ET. Tickets for Tuesday’s originally scheduled game, which had been set for 6:40 p.m. ET, will be honored for the doubleheader. Fans holding tickets for Monday’s postponed game can exchange them for Tuesday’s doubleheader or any other Tigers home game in the next 12 months, except for the 2024 home opener.

Additionally, as a token of appreciation for the time change, fans holding tickets for Tuesday’s originally scheduled game will be offered complimentary tickets to another Tigers home game in April or May.

Monday’s postponement decision was made in consultation with Major League Baseball and the Guardians. According to weather.com, temperatures in Detroit were forecast for 41 degrees at 7 p.m., shortly after first pitch, with a wind chill of 33. Similarly chilly conditions are forecast around first pitch on Tuesday, but temperatures are forecast to rise through the afternoon into the upper 40s.

Similar conditions led to a postponement of Monday’s Phillies-White Sox game in Chicago. They’ll also play a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

In Detroit, Tigers starter Matthew Boyd and Guardians rookie Hunter Gaddis are scheduled to start Game 1. Peyton Battenfield will make his second Major League start for Cleveland in Game 2, opposing Detroit’s Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Tigers haven’t played since Saturday afternoon. Sunday’s game against the Giants was postponed after a five-hour delay. Because San Francisco wasn't scheduled to return to Detroit this season, the two sides waited through the afternoon for a chance to play, in consultation with MLB. The game was hoped to begin early Sunday evening, according to sources, but a travel issue with the Giants -- who have a series against the Marlins beginning Monday in Miami -- led the two sides to postpone the game and reschedule for July 24.
