NEW YORK -- Curtis Granderson is being recognized as the Yankees' winner of the 2012 Heart and Hustle Award, issued annually by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
Granderson received the honor -- presented by former Yankees outfielder Mickey Rivers -- prior to Tuesday's game against the Orioles. The award recognizes one player on each Major League team who demonstrates a passion for baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
One player will be chosen as the final Heart and Hustle Award recipient at the Legends for Youth dinner in New York on Nov. 13. The Angels' Torii Hunter was selected as last year's overall winner; Granderson also won the Yankees' honors in 2011.
