NEW YORK -- Gleyber Torres homered twice, Gary Sánchez cleared the right-field bullpen with a mammoth blast and Cameron Maybin added his first homer in pinstripes as the Yankees outslugged the Orioles, 5-3, in the first game of a single-admission doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

“I think we had two days in a row off, so I think everybody was rested a little bit,” Torres said. “Everybody tried to hit the ball, just put the ball in play and try to do damage. I think that is the difference.”

Torres notched his fourth career multi-homer game, and second of the season, as he cleared the fences in his first two at-bats of the day. Sanchez slugged a 443-foot drive in the first inning and Maybin went deep in the second inning, as all four Yankees homers came off Baltimore starter David Hess.

"We've got power,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “That ball Gary hit, that's a long way right there. It was good to get some points on the board in that way."

Pitching in front of a sparse crowd that felt more like a Spring Training contest, New York’s J.A. Happ continued to struggle with the long ball as well, serving up a pair of solo homers. Trey Mancini connected off Happ in the first inning, and Renato Nunez did the same in the fourth.

Happ allowed three runs and five hits over 5 1/3 innings before handing the ball off to the bullpen. The veteran has surrendered 11 homers this season, nine of them in the Bronx, though Boone said he thought Happ was throwing the ball better after the fourth inning.

Even so, the Yankees handed the ball off to a bullpen that was well-rested after a pair of rainouts earlier in the week. Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Zack Britton and Aroldis Chapman combined to record the final 11 outs, with Happ having thrown only 64 pitches.

“I just wanted to make sure [Boone] remembered we had a doubleheader today,” Happ said. “He did, and he has his reasons. The four guys who came in were about as nasty as I’ve seen all year. They were disgusting. At the same time, I still would have rather stayed in there. That’s just the way it goes.”

Mike Tauchman had a run-scoring single for the Yankees, who have won 19 of their past 26 games. New York improved to 5-2 this season against Baltimore.
