NEW YORK -- The Yankees have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Gleyber Torres, avoiding arbitration.

Torres’ agreement is for $9.95 million, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The figure represents the midpoint between Torres and the club; Torres requested $10.2 million, and the club offered $9.7 million.

The 26-year-old Torres earned $6.25 million last season, when he slashed .257/.310/.451 (114 OPS+) with 24 home runs and 76 RBIs in 140 games. A two-time American League All-Star (2018, ’19), Torres has compiled a .265/.331/.455 slash line across his five big league seasons.

The Yankees’ crowded infield mix could still spell a trade before Opening Day. DJ LeMahieu is said to be healthy and moving well in workouts at the club’s Minor League complex in Tampa, Fla., and general manager Brian Cashman has said that Josh Donaldson will be the club’s starting third baseman.

There is also a spring battle for playing time on deck at shortstop, where Isiah Kiner-Falefa will compete against prospects Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe. 

The Yankees have now settled with all of their arbitration-eligible players ahead of Spring Training. Yankees pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to camp on Feb. 13.
