Growing up in Arizona, Giants rookie Luis González was frequently mistaken for the son of his namesake, former D-backs outfielder and 2001 World Series hero Luis Gonzalez.

“[People] always thought he was my dad,” the younger González said. “Being from Tucson and playing ball, I got it all the time. It became normal to me.”

After capturing National League Rookie of the Month honors in May, the Giants’ González has started to make a name for himself -- and the elder Gonzalez has taken notice. With the D-backs in town this week, the two finally got to meet on Tuesday at the request of the five-time All-Star.

“It was cool,” the Giants’ González said. “I was telling him that since I was a little boy, I was watching him play, and he was one of my favorite players. For them to say that Luis Gonzalez wanted to meet me, it was pretty cool.”
