July 30: INF Marco Luciano, C/OF Blake Sabol recalled from Triple-A Sacramento
Luciano and Sabol will take the roster spots vacated by Jorge Soler and Luke Jackson, both of whom were dealt to the Braves on Monday night. Luciano, the Giants' No. 3 prospect, figures to get plenty of at-bats down the stretch and started at designated hitter against the A's on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old Dominican batted .375 (9-for-24) over his 10-game stint with the Giants in May and was in the midst of a hot streak at Sacramento, where he recorded a .927 OPS and six homers over 19 games this month.

Sabol, 26, is back in the big leagues for the first time since May and was batting .245 with a .703 OPS and five home runs over 64 games with Sacramento.

July 30: OF Mark Canha acquired from the Tigers in exchange for RHP Eric Silva
Canha, 35, was batting .231 with a .687 OPS and seven home runs over 93 games for the Tigers this year. He is owed the remainder of his $11.5 million 2024 salary and will be eligible for free agency at the end of the season. A San Jose native, Canha attended Bellarmine College Preparatory and Cal and spent the first seven seasons of his career with Oakland, where he played under Bob Melvin. Silva, 21, was the Giants' fourth-round Draft pick in 2021 and recorded a 4.35 ERA over 28 appearances at Double-A Richmond this year. More >>

July 30: RHP Alex Cobb traded to Guardians in exchange for LHP Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named; RHP Mike Baumann traded to Angels for cash considerations
Cobb, a 2023 All-Star with the Giants, has yet to make his season debut, but he was inching closer to returning from the left hip surgery and right shoulder issues that have sidelined him this year. With Cobb no longer in the fold, the Giants should have a spot in their rotation for rookie Hayden Birdsong, who has opened eyes after recording a 2.97 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 30 1/3 innings in his first six Major League starts.

The Giants also announced that they traded Baumann to the Angels in exchange for cash considerations. Baumann, 28, gave up two runs over two-thirds of an inning in his lone appearance for San Francisco before being designated for assignment last week. More >>

July 29: DH Jorge Soler, RHP Luke Jackson traded to the Braves in exchange for LHP Tyler Matzek and INF Sabin Ceballos
On the eve of Tuesday's 3 p.m. PT Trade Deadline, the Giants struck a deal to move two of their veterans and clear some salary off their books. No cash is being exchanged in the deal, meaning the Braves will be taking on the remaining $26 million owed to Soler in 2025 and ‘26. The 32-year-old Cuban slugger was in the first year of a three-year, $42 million deal he signed with the Giants in February, but his departure should clear the way for the Giants to take an extended look at No. 3 prospect Marco Luciano, who has posted a .927 OPS with six home runs over 19 games for Triple-A Sacramento this month. 10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

INF Thairo Estrada (left wrist sprain)
Expected return: August
Estrada missed nine games with the same wrist issue earlier this season, but he struggled to overcome the injury after returning from his first stint on the 10-day IL on July 9. He went only 3-for-34 (.088) with seven strikeouts over his last 10 games, prompting the Giants to place him back on the IL on July 26. (Last updated: July 26)

INF Wilmer Flores (right knee tendinitis)
Expected return: August
Flores was placed on the injured list on July 25 (retroactive to July 24). He last appeared as a pinch-hitter on July 23 against the Dodgers. He had returned from the same injury on July 9.

“Never really cleared up,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said. “When you’re not playing as much and not swinging how you’re used to, you’re putting in a lot of extra work, and it’s not allowing it to really heal.”

Flores will be eligible to be activated in early August. But with a platelet-rich plasma injection upcoming, Melvin said it might be a bit longer before he’s ready. (Last updated: July 26)

LHP Carson Whisenhunt (sore foot, No. 1 on Giants top prospects list, No. 57 overall)
Expected return: August
Whisenhunt was placed on the seven-day Minor League injured list on July 24 with a sore foot. The 23-year-old has struggled in his first year with Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 5.84 ERA in 19 starts, although he has 102 strikeouts in 77 innings. Whisenhunt made his last start for the River Cats on July 13 and allowed three runs over four frames with seven punchouts. (Last updated: July 24)

RHP Keaton Winn (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Winn underwent season-ending right elbow surgery in Los Angeles on July 29. Dr. Steven Shin performed an ulnar nerve transposition, which takes pressure off the nerve by moving it from the back of the elbow to the front. The procedure is expected to have a two-month recovery process, which should allow him to be ready to go by Spring Training 2025.

Winn last pitched for the Giants on June 20, when he gave up five runs over 2 2/3 innings against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field. The 26-year-old rookie ended up logging a 7.16 ERA over 12 starts in an injury-marred campaign for San Francisco.

"It's been frustrating for him," manager Bob Melvin said. "He's never really felt great in this whole process. We shut him down for a little bit, got him back throwing again. Obviously, it's come to the point where he needs to have that done." (Last updated: July 30)

LHP Ethan Small (moderate right oblique strain)
Expected return: August
Small made his first rehab appearance for Single-A San Jose on July 27, striking out two over a scoreless inning. He was scheduled to pitch one inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento on July 30. Small was acquired from the Brewers over the offseason and was in the running for a bullpen spot before sustaining the oblique injury. (Last updated: July 30)

RHP Tristan Beck (upper right arm aneurysm)
Expected return: Second half
Beck, 27, felt his hand go cold after throwing some bullpen sessions early in camp, prompting the Giants to send him back to San Francisco to be evaluated by team doctors on Feb. 27. He ended up visiting a vascular specialist at Stanford, who helped determine that an aneurysm -- an abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel -- was the source of the numbness. Beck was transferred to the 60-day injured list on March 3 and underwent surgery at Stanford the next day to address the issue.

Beck was cleared to resume full baseball activity after a follow-up appointment with Dr. Jason Lee on May 1. He threw a bullpen session at Oracle Park on July 26 and progressed to throwing live batting practice in Arizona on July 30. (Last updated: July 30)

C Tom Murphy (left knee sprain)
Expected return: Second half
Murphy felt a pop in his knee after going down to try to block a wild pitch in the second inning of the Giants' 14-3 loss to the Phillies on May 4 and was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day. An MRI exam revealed a Grade 1-2 sprain. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 15 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow backstop Curt Casali. Murphy visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on July 25 after experiencing inflammation behind his knee and in his hamstring, which will limit his baseball activity for the time being. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left knee on July 30.

Signed to a two-year, $8.25 million deal in December, Murphy hit .118 with one home run over his first 13 games with the Giants. (Last updated: July 30)

LHP Tyler Matzek (left elbow soreness)
Expected return: TBD
Matzek, who was acquired from the Braves as part of the Jorge Soler trade on July 29, has been crow hopping while throwing from 90 feet. He has been encouraged by how his arm has felt, but it's too early to project when he might be available to pitch again. He posted a 9.90 ERA and produced some concerning hard-hit metrics over 11 appearances this season. He rested his arm for six weeks before recently being cleared to begin throwing again. CF Jung Hoo Lee (left shoulder dislocation)
Expected return: 2025
Lee suffered a season-ending torn labrum in his left shoulder crashing into the center-field fence on May 12 and had surgery on June 4. The club considered the procedure a success and said the typical timeline for recovery is six months. (Last updated: June 4)
