PHOENIX -- A fielder's glove resting on one end of the bench in the Giants' dugout bore the name "Hunter" stitched into it.
The question was, "Which Hunter?" Moreover, which Hunter was experiencing a particularly satisfying or meaningful Players Weekend, which entered its second day Saturday?
It could be right fielder Hunter Pence, who's sporting one of the most colorful nicknames in the Majors this weekend: "Wawindaji," which means "lion hunter" in Swahili.

Pence gave teammates the opportunity to select his nickname. With "Wawindaji," Giants left fielder Jarrett Parker made an inspired choice. But Parker insisted he didn't base his selection on its novelty.
"I wasn't trying to go for that," Parker said. "I don't think either of us were."
Or consider right-hander Hunter Strickland, who is capitalizing on the platform that Players Weekend affords to promote a fund in honor of a deceased friend.
Strickland's tribute patch reads, in part, "Team Carone Foundation." Said Strickland, whose jersey bears the nickname "Strick," "That's my buddy Rick who passed away from pancreatic cancer. He meant a lot to me."

Then there's the hunter who's overlooked by those who don't speak Spanish or aren't in on the inside story of outfielder Gorkys Hernandez. His nickname, "Cazador," means -- you guessed it -- "Hunter" in English.
Fans watching Hernandez display his defensive gifts in winter ball savored his relentless pursuit of batted balls and graced him with that nickname. Recalled Hernandez, "I stole a home run and everybody called me 'Cazador! Cazador!'"
