Parra OK after pitch ricochets to face
April 9th, 2019
SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants outfielder Gerardo Parra departed Monday night's series opener against the Padres in the seventh inning after a 93 mph fastball from left-hander Brad Wieck hit his shoulder and then struck him in the lip.
Parra immediately fell to the ground, prompting team athletic trainers to rush to his side from the dugout. Parra was slow to get up and held a towel to his face as he walked off the field. After the Giants' 6-5 loss, manager Bruce Bochy said Parra had a cut lip and would be available for Tuesday's game.
Left-hander Derek Holland entered the game to pinch-run for Parra, who was replaced in left field by Yangervis Solarte in the eighth.
