SEATTLE -- Astros All-Star outfielder George Springer is day to day after leaving in the second inning of Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mariners with left shoulder soreness. Springer banged his shoulder on the ground while trying to make a diving stop in center field in the first inning.
"Obviously, I landed on it a little awkwardly and it's a tough play, but we'll see what happens tomorrow," Springer said.
Springer, who struck out on the first inning, said he knew the shoulder didn't feel right when he got up off the ground. He got treatment from the trainers in the clubhouse throughout the night while watching the game on TV.
"He came off the field and was pretty sore and I think a little scared, too," Astros manager AJ Hinch said. "It was a weird play for him to try to cut the ball off and his left shoulder was bugging him. We took him out of the game. He worked with the trainers the whole game. We'll see how he is. Standard day to day."

Already without injured stars Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, the Astros will be holding their breath until they get further diagnosis on Springer. Even though he's struggled recently -- hitting .170 in his last 39 games -- the Astros would have a hard time replacing their leadoff hitter.
"It's tough I wasn't out there," Springer said. "It is what it is."
Correa (back) and Altuve (knee) are both on the disabled list. Correa could begin a rehab assignment as early as Thursday at Double-A Corpus Christi. Altuve left Wednesday's game in Colorado and was placed on the disabled list a couple of days later with a sore right knee.
