CHICAGO -- tied a White Sox franchise record for consecutive strikeouts to start a game by fanning the first seven against the Mets in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Crochet tied the mark previously held by Carlos Rodón (Sept. 30, 2016 vs. Minnesota) and Joe Cowley (May 28, 1986 at Texas). The White Sox in-game record is held by Lucas Giolito, who fanned eight straight against the Royals on Sept. 12, 2019. Crochet struck out eight before leaving at 57 pitches with runners on first and third and one out in the fourth, trailing 1-0 courtesy of Francisco Lindor’s home run.

The White Sox continue to closely monitor Crochet’s workload, as the 2024 All-Star is sitting at a career-high 132 innings. He only threw four pitches in his last start Tuesday against the Rangers before the game was delayed by rain and eventually suspended.

“It’s going to be hard today when I have to tell him, ‘Hey, you’re done because you’re on a limit,’” White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore said of Crochet before Sunday’s start. “I know he gives me that look like he’s mad every time and he doesn’t want it.

“I don’t want to do it, I don’t want to pull him. I love that part about him. Just the passion, the way he goes about it and that he’s a team player.”
