SEATTLE -- Left-handed reliever Charlie Furbush and catcher Steve Clevenger have declined Minor League outrights and will opt for free agency, while the Mariners are still waiting for a decision from right-hander Ryan Cook.
Those three players all had their contracts outrighted to the Minors on Wednesday after ending the regular season on the 60-day disabled list.
Furbush underwent left rotator cuff surgery in August and isn't expected to pitch this coming season. The 30-year-old was a big part of the Mariners' bullpen from 2011-15, posting a 4.02 ERA in 230 appearances with Seattle. He hasn't pitched in the Majors since running into shoulder problems midway through the '15 season.
Clevenger hit .221/.303/.309 with one home run and seven RBIs in 68 at-bats over 22 games as Seattle's backup catcher after being acquired from the Orioles for Mark Trumbo last winter. But the 30-year-old broke his right hand on a foul ball on June 29 and attempted a Minor League comeback in August before his right elbow issue flared up. He then was suspended without pay by the Mariners for the final 10 games of the season after tweeting several racially insensitive comments while rehabbing with the team.

Cook, a 2012 All-Star with the A's, also will likely miss most of the upcoming season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October. The 29-year-old spent all of 2016 on the DL after signing a one-year deal with Seattle in January. He strained his right latissimus dorsi muscle in Spring Training and pitched just one inning on a Minor League rehab effort in July before being shut down again for the rest of the year.
