It’s a girl for reliever Freddy Peralta and his wife, Maritza, who welcomed baby Norah on Friday in Milwaukee.

Peralta, who left the team Thursday to be with his wife, was active for Saturday’s game in St. Louis.

“Everything is wonderful,” manager Craig Counsell said. “He got here late last night, so he actually got a night of sleep, which is not common for a new father. So everything is good.”

Players are granted three days while away on the paternity list, so from that angle, Peralta returned to the team earlier than it may have originally expected. Counsell said that because the couple’s extended family was also in Milwaukee, the pitcher knew he could join the team in St. Louis and have peace of mind that his wife was going to be well taken care of.

“That made him feel better, and I think it helped him get back quickly,” Counsell said.

Peralta last pitched on Sunday in the Brewers’ 5-3 win over Kansas City, striking out one batter over 1 2/3 scoreless innings. The 24-year-old right-hander hasn’t allowed an earned run in five outings in September, spanning 8 1/3 innings.

To clear a roster spot for Peralta, the Brewers optioned left-hander Eric Lauer to the alternate training site. They also returned right-hander J.P. Feyereisen to the alternate site.
