Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta dropped his appeal of a five-game suspension and began serving it Monday.

Peralta, who was suspended after hitting Jose Siri with a pitch during a tense game against the Rays on Tuesday, will be eligible to return on Saturday.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy (two games), pitcher Abner Uribe (six games) and Siri (three games) were also suspended for their roles in the on-field skirmishes.

Peralta appealed his suspension after the punishments were handed down on Wednesday in hopes of starting Sunday’s series finale against the Cubs.

The right-handed ace held off the suspension long enough to make his start against Milwaukee’s division rival, but it didn’t go as well as he’d hoped. Peralta gave up three runs on three hits and six walks, which tied a career high, during a 5-0 loss -- his first of the season -- in Chicago.

The 27-year-old is expected to return to the mound on Saturday against the Cardinals at home once his suspension is up.

Murphy said Sunday that Brewers No. 5 prospect Robert Gasser could step into Milwaukee’s rotation this week with Peralta out.
