No worse for wear, bear ready for A's game
On Thursday night, an unlucky bear got hit right in the face with a line-drive foul ball off the bat of D-backs second baseman Ketel Marte in the eighth inning at the Oakland Coliseum. On Friday, he was back in his seat, ready to watch the A's take on the Angels.
It hasn't been unusual to see stuffed animals scattered around Major League ballparks, along with cardboard cutouts of fans, in this unprecedented and unusual season. Without fans in the stands to catch foul balls or run after home runs, we've seen batted balls strike the stand-ins with impressive accuracy. In this case, the bear seemed downright resilient.
Unbearable, if you will. Can't bear to watch? Well, you'll probably want to see it at least once, along with the broadcasters having a little fun with the puns.
And they weren't the only ones having a little fun at the bear's expense. Take A's president Dave Kaval, for instance -- he's going to make sure that bear gets to keep the foul ball. Check that tweet at the top of the story -- T. Bear's got that ball in the crook of his arm. It's the least the A's could do, right?
Kaval's club was able to bear down and defeat a hot D-backs team as Oakland won the game, 5-1, to continue its march toward what it hopes will be its first AL West title in seven years. Surely the A's will do everything they can to make that bear a happy fan come October.
