LOS ANGELES -- Where were you when Vin Scully said, "If you have a sombrero, throw it to the sky!"?

The date was June 29, 1990. Fernando Valenzuela was nearly a decade removed from Fernandomania and hadn't had a winning record in nearly four years, but there was still a little magic remaining in his left arm as he no-hit the Cardinals.

The Dodgers won the game at Dodger Stadium, 6-0, and Valenzuela's former teammate, Pedro Guerrero, was the final batter. Guerrero grounded a ball up the middle, but Valenzuela deflected it with his glove and second baseman Juan Samuel turned it into a game-ending double-play.

Another former teammate who was part of that day's storyline was A's starter Dave Stewart, who no-hit the Blue Jays in Toronto earlier that evening.

Valenzuela reflected on his no-hitter in May 2018, when he accompanied the Dodgers to Monterrey in his Mexican homeland and watched four Dodgers combine to no-hit the Padres.

"Good memories from a couple years ago when I had the opportunity to do it," Valenzuela said.

Valenzuela, treated like an icon ever since Fernandomania swept over the game nearly four decades ago, last pitched in the Major Leagues in 1997.
