Phillies Host Nike MLB RBI Mid-Atlantic RegionalYouth Baseball and Softball Tournament
On Friday, July 21, the Phillies kicked off Major League Baseball’s Nike RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament, featuring the region’s top RBI youth baseball and softball all-stars.
The tournament featured 16 Nike RBI teams across junior and senior baseball and softball, representing DC Elite Softball, Durham Triple Play, Lehigh Valley, Michael Stepp of Greater Harrisburg, Williamsport, the Orioles, the Pirates, and the Phillies.
The games were played at fields in both South Philadelphia and Camden. The three-day tournament concluded with the top two teams from each division competing in the championship games played at the Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy Fields.
DC Elite were the champions of the softball division. Lehigh Valley Nike RBI won the baseball Junior Division championship, while the Pittsburgh Pirates won the Senior Division.
The victorious teams will advance to the MLB Nike RBI World Series, hosted at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida in August.
The Phillies Nike RBI Leagues, sponsored by Nike and Richman’s Ice Cream, include over 2,000 teenagers in 20 locations in Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware.
